Young gets Bluebird award

Young named 2005 Bluebirder of the year.

Eugene Young of rural
Plainview was named the 2005 Bluebirder of the year for Antelope County by Bluebirds Across Nebraska.
Young had 63 nest houses and fledged 276 bluebirds. He became a member of B.A.N. after seeing a bluebird booth at the Nebraska State Fair in
Lincoln in 2002. He also worked with Tony Dohmen, coordinator for B.A.N. in signing up new members and promoting bluebirds.
Currently there are 17 members in B.A.N. in
Antelope County and 1,750 total in Nebraska. Of those in Antelope County, there were 113 nest boxes with 450 birds fledged. According to Dohmen, "The entire state fledged 25,055 bluebirds in 2005, up from 24,035 in 2004." He added that 18 northeast Nebraska counties reported 5,520 bluebirds fledged or 22 percent of the state's bluebirds.
Anyone interested in bluebirds or has questions can call Dohmen at 402-371-9272.
